Exploring the Pacific Northwest is stepping into a world where nature feels vast and raw. The Oregon Coast, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the forested Oregon Coast Range to the east, is where this wilderness can be experienced. It’s no wonder this stretch of coastline has become a haven for adventurers and those drawn to the wild.
For a group of eight friends, this dramatic coastline became the backdrop for an incredible long weekend, with each day offering a new adventure, and a glimpse into the region’s past — from the mountains to the ocean.
Landing at Astoria Regional Airport, the Pacific sea air greeted them, and their EXP Guides were ready to whisk them off to their first taste of adventure before settling into their luxurious base for the trip.
Arrival Into Adventure
The adventure began with excitement. Straight from the airport, the friends were driven to a private go-kart race track, where adrenaline was primed, setting the tone for more thrills over the days to come.

Team spirit begins full throttle
After the ultimate childhood fun throwback and some friendly rivalry, they headed along the coast toward Manzanita. Here, the gateway to the adventures, is where the surf, dramatic cliffs, and laid-back, charming village atmosphere make visitors feel a world away from everyday life.

A luxurious front-row retreat
Dotted along the seven-mile sweeping stretch of beach were a selection of beautiful retreat homes with a front-row seat to the Pacific, one of which was the group’s for the three nights. Their luxury oceanfront home served as an ideal base, with spacious living areas and a cozy wood-burning fire for all the friends to gather around, floor-to-ceiling windows for ocean views, and a large open kitchen for gourmet dinners.
As they admired the sunset that evening, the group gathered around the table and indulged in a multi-course dinner prepared by the private chef, full of fresh seafood and local ingredients.

Endless views from the summit to the sea
The views along the trails were some of the best along Oregon’s coastline. Some steep, challenging sections were encountered as the friends weaved through the moss-covered trees to the summit, where they were rewarded with panoramic views. They soaked up the views and the peaceful silence before heading back down.
Climbing Peaks and Chasing Views
The sun was shining the following morning, ready for the day’s first activity: hiking the trails. After a hearty breakfast, the friends geared up and were led by EXP Guides to conquer Neahkahnie Mountain — known to Native Americans as the “place of supreme deity.”

Exploring the forest

Pausing to soak it all in
After lunch, another spurt of energy resurfaced, and the group was excited to get back to the trails. Mountain bikes replaced hiking boots as they enjoyed an afternoon under the guidance of EXP’s expert riders. The group tackled a range of terrain, from smooth paths to more technical descents. Surrounded by Sitka spruce and ferns in the afternoon light, the ride was the perfect end to the day.

Weaving through the Oregon forest

In the glow of the Sitka spruce
Back at the house, well-deserved relaxation was in the cards, and tired muscles were met with warm showers, good wine, and another delicious dinner.
From Water to Wine
The third day called for a slight change of pace. After breakfast, the group headed out and boarded boats at Tillamook Bay with local guides ready to fish the rich coastal waters. The weather was perfect as they dropped lines and tested their patience, pulling in Chinook and Coho salmon, and even a few crabs. As they enjoyed the thrill of fishing, they were also treated to the guides’ stories and the serenity and beauty of the coastline.

Casting off for a day of fishing

Crab and salmon, fresh victories from the Pacific

A successful haul was put on ice, ready for them to devour that evening. After a day on the water, some relaxation was enjoyed before the friends gathered for their evening activity, a private Willamette Valley wine tasting from the comfort of the house.
They sampled elegant, balanced Pinot Noirs and learned about sustainable farming practices as the sun went down. Dinner then featured the day’s catch of fresh crab and salmon, paired perfectly with local wines and, once again, accompanied by an ocean view.

A feast prepared, from ocean to table

Catching Waves
They shared a final breakfast as they overlooked the rolling Pacific before preparing for their final adrenaline hit, which would take place in the ocean. Surf instructors met the group for a practice session on the beach, where they also shared their top tips for the day’s conditions.

Riding the Pacific waves, together

Confidently conquering the waves

Rolling and powerful waves awaited them, but with wetsuits on and boards in hand, the friends waded out into the surf with confidence. Most of the friends had surfed before, and as they paddled out, there were natural wipeouts and triumphs alike.

The unforgettable Oregon coastline
Until the Next Adventure
Salty and satisfied with their efforts, the group headed back to the house to shower. A gourmet lunch spread of local cheeses, deli meats, coastal delicacies, and fresh bread was then served and much appreciated after a morning’s surf. Conversation flowed, and stories were retold as they relaxed into a final leisurely lunch.
As they packed up and said their goodbyes, the short drive back to Astoria Regional Airport gave the friends a last look at Oregon’s wild coast. It was clear that the Oregon Coast had left its mark on them, and another long weekend here, full of adventure and connection, wouldn’t be too far in the distant future.
