According to Kevin Jackson, co-founder of EXP Journeys, Antarctica “sets the bar” as far as remote locations go. “It’s the only continent without any permanent resident population, and it’s surrounded by rough seas and extreme weather. To visit Antarctica, I recommend flying from Punta Arenas to reduce the amount of time during a crossing—or, alternatively, look into White Desert, which offers luxurious stays only accessible by private charter,” he says. …
Few places within the United States are as rugged and wild as Alaska, but there’s one particular part of the state that Jackson says feels exceptionally remote. “One of the largest national parks in the U.S., Wrangell St. Elias National Park has an incredible amount of empty wilderness,” he says, recommending the Ultima Thule Lodge, which provides remote access via Piper Super Cub two-seat planes. “These planes can land almost anywhere and offer guests an amazing sense of isolation,” he adds.
