profiles of our EXPerts
Kevin is passionate about creating experiences that have never been done before. Whether trying to find a unique way to have lunch on a tower overlooking Lake Powell or creating an event based in the 1800s (think West World) Kevin enjoys pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
As a guide Kevin helps create itineraries through the knowledge and experience gained over years of traveling through each destination.
Kevin has said many times that his favorite part of guiding is seeing guests experience places for the first time and the memories he has been able to share with people over the years. If Kevin is not in the office he is probably teaching his kids how to surf or out riding his mountain bike.
Eric has always believed in doing things better and making them different. EXP is the perfect match for this mantra. He is dedicated to improving internal processes and most importantly the guest’s experience while traveling. Eric’s goal is for every trip to be better than the last and to provide the guests with an experience that they have never experienced before. He will tell you that there is nothing better than to hear the client say ‘the best day ever’ or ‘I never thought we could have so much fun as family’.
Exploring the outdoors is a life long passion that has taken Eric from working as a dive master on the Great Barrier Reef to snow cat skiing in the Canadian Rockies to surfing the beaches of Nicaragua.
Andrew Roberts is the lead guide for EXP and is based in our San Diego, California office. Andrew began his career in the field of textile design and evenutally followed his passion and love for the outdoors into the adventure travel business.
Andrew has spent a lot of time travelling and guiding throughout the Americas with multiple ascents of Mt Whitney and lots of time spent in the canyons and rivers of Southwestern USA and South America.
He is an AMGA certified guide with a single pitch instructor certification and is also a Wilderness First Responder with full certification in the administration of CPR, AED and medical oxygen. Andrew manages the luxury camping program and has been instrumental in creating the experiences offered at each location.
Katy had the opportunity to move to Solana Beach, where as an Arizonan she had vacationed for years, and jumped on it. She traded driving to work in a suit for walking to the office in flip flops. She believes departing from the norm can make you feel most alive and she loves the creativity involved in building those experiences for other people.
When not working, you'll probably find Katy exploring town with her husky, taking advantage of a low tide and walking the shoreline of Encinitas, or biking Highway 101 as the sun rises.
Sandy is a big dreamer, and loves making those dreams come true. Raft the Grand Canyon? Been there. Hike the Kalalua Trail in a day? Conquered. If you tell her that something is difficult, or that she isn’t going to be able to do it, it only makes her want to do it more. She’s a regular Tomb Raider; she’s been bungee jumping, sky diving, canyoneering, rock climbing, spelunking, scuba diving, and white-water rafting. Not only does she love these activities, but Sandy loves to share these experiences to create an adventure that will last a lifetime.
Her vision is to craft the perfect trip and make your dreams come true. When not working, you will find Sandy at the CrossFit gym or in the backyard with her husband playing with their son and dog.
Hadley’s love for travel and adventure started a young age. Listening to her grandparents stories about their exotic travels all over the world sparked a curiosity in her that she had to experience for herself. She has spent summers in the Swiss Alps, road-tripped around Ireland, grew up in The Bahamas, studied abroad in South Africa, backpacked through Southeast Asia and drove across the United States. She has a passion for experiencing the unknown and for sharing that with others. At EXP Journeys, Hadley strives to give clients unique experiences which in turn creates lifelong memories of their travels.
When she is not working she can be found exploring her new home of San Diego by hiking with her dog Cooper, chasing sunsets with friends, or searching for the best tacos Southern California has to offer.
Mackenzie’s idea of “making it” includes living in Australia and managing a farm sanctuary through her retirement. She loves to be surrounded by dogs, intriguing people, TED Talks and unlimited iced chai lattes (with coconut milk).
Having graduated from snowy Northern Arizona University, Mackenzie adores living where there are actually four seasons (come on, California). She received her bachelor’s degree in photography, and after spending a semester abroad in college, she knew she wanted to combine her love of taking pictures and travel to make a career.
She gets a kick out of seeing her client’s photos and the happiness on their faces from exploring new locations. Mackenzie is a proud “Zonie” and is especially excited hearing about their time in the canyons of the Southwest. She enjoys the interaction she gets with her clients, and thinks being involved in creating memories for them and their families is pretty remarkable!
Best trip: 40th birthday surprise party with a helicopter landing on a houseboat, private chef, jet skis, the works!
